Congratulations to our of the Elementary Teacher of the Year Jaci Cloud. Mrs. Cloud has 14 years of teaching experience with 9 of those years at Big Sandy. She currently teaches 2nd Grade and does an outstanding job with her students.

Families, thank you for your partnership this year. As you know, our students took the STAAR tests earlier this spring. The STAAR is one of many ways to measure student learning. It will help schools and teachers better understand where students may have gaps from the disruptions to learning caused by the pandemic. Teachers will use STAAR results along with other information to co-create learning plans with families to jumpstart learning next year.
Scores are available on different dates according to the grade and subject tested.
Spring STAAR EOCs (grades 9-12) are available now.
Grades 5 and 8 STAAR Math/Reading ONLY are available starting today, June 21, 2021.
Grades 3-8 STAAR will be available on June 28, 2021.
Summer STAAR EOC Retests will be available on July 30, 2021.
You will be able to access your child’s STAAR results via the www.TexasAssessment.com website. (Detailed instructions for login on next page.) This will take you directly to your child’s STAAR results, which will include detailed breakdowns in each subject, identifying your child’s strengths as well as areas where they may need additional support. Parents have shared that seeing which questions their child got incorrect has been the most useful. You will also see easy to use resources that can be used at home over the remainder of the summer focused on the skills your child needs the most support with.
We expect STAAR scores will likely be lower for many students this year. So many of them have experienced trauma and loss in addition to the disruption in classroom instruction. You can help ease stress by letting your child know that this year, STAAR is only meant to help teachers and parents better support their learning.
The partnership between families and schools has never been more important. We encourage you to log in and learn more anytime after your student’s scores are available. Use this information along with your own observations from the past year and your child’s grades to create a learning plan with teachers in the fall to help your child succeed.
Thank you for your partnership! We wish you and your family a healthy and restful summer.

Parents/Guardians of Upcoming 7th Grade Students in Texas Schools:
State law requires all students in all grades in Texas schools to be immunized against certain vaccine-preventable diseases. In addition to vaccines your child has already received, state law requires one dose of the meningococcal conjugate (MCV4) vaccine and one dose of the Tetanus-diptheria-acelllular pertussis (Tdap) vaccine for students in 7th-12th grade.
Please take care of this early before the busy back-to-school season. Our Facebook page and our website has a local clinic set up just for you on May 28th. You must sign up in advance to participate.

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week, and this year, more than ever, just about every one of our employees in Big Sandy has acted as a teacher in one important way or another. This year, all of our employees have been called on to do what would have seemed impossible two years ago. We've asked our educators to love on our students, invite them back into classrooms and provide academic and emotional support at a time where our student's lives were anything but normal. We've asked our teachers to reach kids in the classroom and their homes. All of our teachers, paras, custodians, and just about every other employee have been asked to clean surfaces multiple times throughout the day.
Through all of this turmoil, the employees in Big Sandy ISD have handled these challenges with dignity, strength, and grace.
So, as we begin Teacher Appreciation Week, let's express our deep appreciation for ALL of our teachers, paras, secretaries, custodians, maintenance staff, and everyone else that has kept our school up and running through a pandemic. All of you have done everything that you can to make our schools a place where kids could feel normal again, or at least as normal as possible during a pandemic. You've all loved our kids even a little bit more than usual, and for that, we are forever grateful.

Congratulations to our Big Sandy Wildcats Michael Jitjaeng, Jeremy Dezelle and Zoey Messick on their Regional Championships. These three students are headed to State on Thursday!
Michael qualified by winning 1st place in Discus with 178’10” and 1st place in Shotput with 57’7”
Jeremy qualified by winning 1st place in High Jump with 6-03
And Zoey qualified by winning 1st place in 300 Meter Hurdles with 48.04
