Big Sandy Community: We are aware of a recent threat that was made against Big Sandy. We were made aware of this after 10:00 pm this evening. We thank the parents that have reached out to us. We are working diligently to figure out where the threat originated. Snapchat and Instagram fake accounts are easily created. None the less, we take seriously all threats made toward our school, even though there are 2 Big Sandy ISDs in East Texas. As we discover more details, we will inform you via text message and Facebook.

The Lockdown Drill went great this morning! Our staff and students did an amazing job! The Lockdown Drill lasted about 22 minutes, so we were ahead of schedule. Thank you for working with us to train our staff and students on Campus Safety! Go Wildcats!

We also periodically perform Inclement Weather Drills in the event of a weather emergency. The Texas School Safety Center also recommends that schools undergo Lockdown Drills, in the event of a campus threat or emergency. The Texas Education Code also mandates these drills to happen in each school district. On Monday, April 1st, at 9:00 am, the Big Sandy ISD will perform a Lockdown Drill, to practice our response during an actual emergency event. The campuses have informed their teachers, and we have discussed this as Administration. We wanted to inform our community, so that there is ample time to be informed of the Lockdown Drill that will take place on Monday, April 1st, at 9:00 am. This is only a drill, and no one will be allowed into or out of the building during the drill. The drill will take approximately 30 minutes. Just a reminder- The gym doors will open at 5:50 for parents and guests; however, elementary students may enter the gym beginning at 5:30 so that they have time to get in their assigned spots by 5:45. Classrooms will be open from 6:30-7:30. PTO will be selling cotton candy for $2.00 in the student center and the elementary will be selling binders for $1.00. Tonight, Thursday, March 7, 2019: The Elementary PE Program will begin at 6:00 pm in the Junior High Gymnasium. These kids and teachers have worked so hard for the best program ever! Hey Everybody: The SAT exam will be administered to Big Sandy High Students on Tuesday, April 23rd, during the normal school day. The test fee is $64.50 and $15 for students who receive free or reduced lunches. If interested, students may sign up in Mrs. Minter's office. Payment is required at the time of sign-up. Tomorrow is Valentine's Day! If you are bringing your Secondary student (a student in grades 6 through 12) any Valentine's goodies, please understand that these may be brought to the front office of each campus (the Junior High and High School), but they will not be given/delivered to the student until the end of the school day. Coronation Reminder: There is a mandatory practice tonight at 6:30 pm. It is very important that all students participating be here. You will receive 2 free tickets and a picture schedule at practice. Also, tickets for Saturday’s Coronation are on sale now in the Elementary Office they are $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for students if you wish to purchase ahead of time.

Substitute training class will be held tomorrow, Tuesday, January 29, starting at 9:00 am, in the Main Gym Foyer. If you would like to sub in Big Sandy ISD, you must first attend a training class. Bring personal ID, documentation for your I-9, and any transcript for highest level of education.

All proceeds from tonight’s gate at Junior High Basketball will be donated to Athens ISD, in the wake of the recent tragedy. The basketball gate proceeds at Union Grove will be treated the same way. We will be taking donations at the gate tonight.
