Dear Parents, Guardians, and Community Members,
As part of my transition into the Superintendent role, I have been carefully reviewing district leadership structures, systems, and practices to ensure they align with our values, legal requirements, and long-term goals for student success.
Strong school districts are built on clear expectations, consistency, and thoughtful decision-making. Taking the appropriate time to review systems and leadership allows us to make responsible decisions that support stability, growth, and continuous improvement.
As part of this work, I want to share that beginning in the 2026–2027 school year, the district plans to add a dedicated principal position at the Junior High campus. Moving forward, the Junior High and High School will no longer operate under a single principal. This change is intended to strengthen instructional leadership, increase campus-level support, and allow for greater focus on the unique academic and developmental needs of students at each level.
It is important to acknowledge that both the Junior High and High School have experienced academic challenges. Addressing those challenges requires intentional planning, strong leadership, and a commitment to improvement. This additional leadership capacity is one step in a broader effort to move the district forward and better support students, staff, and campuses.
Our focus remains on building a strong foundation through clear expectations, collaboration, and continuous improvement. I am confident that by taking a thoughtful and transparent approach, we are positioning Big Sandy ISD for long-term success.
Thank you for your continued trust and partnership as we work together to build a stronger and better district for our students.
Sincerely,
Rhonda D. Turner
Superintendent of Schools
