Summer Athletic Program

This summer starting June 10th the Big Sandy Athletic Department will have athletic workouts Monday through Thursday for Big Sandy High School and Middle School Athletes, times will be from 5:30 PM to7:30 PM. The weight room in the Field House will be available for athletes to work on summer strength and conditioning.  Coaches will be in attendance in the gym and field house during the times blocked for athletes. All coaches will be acting as facility managers.  We ask that our athletes attend 16 workouts over the summer.  Peak Performance will be conducting specialized workouts as well on Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday evenings. To complete this offseason, Peak Performance will conduct a “BOOT CAMP” in late July.

Also, incoming 7th graders, freshmen, juniors and athletes who have not turned in a physical form will need to get a physical this summer. Remember, physicals cannot be completed if the guardian is not present and has not signed the authorization portion of the physical form. If the guardian or athlete is going to be responsible for their physical, a UIL Physical Form completed by a physician or physician’s assistant will need to be returned to the athletic department before the athlete will be allowed to participate in any workout.

“Two-A-Day” Practices for high school volleyball and football athletes will begin on Monday, August 5th.  Football will be working out at 6pm every evening and ending around 10pm to avoid the dangerous heat of August.  Volleyball workouts will begin at 12:01am August 5th. Please keep this week in mind when planning summer vacations. Middle School athletes will begin workouts for football and volleyball the first day of school.

All UIL and Big Sandy Athletic forms will need to be signed by the athlete and guardian then returned to the athletic department as soon as possible to be kept on file for the coming school year.

There will be an Insurance meeting Friday August 2nd at 5:30 pm in the foyer of the new gym.  Procedures will be explained and our plan of action on injuries with Trinity Mother Francis.  Please remember if you take your child to the doctor on your own- you are on your own!!

Sincerely,

Larry Minter
