National Honor Society

The National Honor Society is an organization of students who must meet criteria in four areas: scholarship, leadership, service, and character.

Scholarship: students must be on the distinguished program and have a cumulative average of 85 or above. Students may be either a sophomore or a junior to begin the process to become a member.

Leadership: the academic faculty of Big Sandy High each receives evaluation forms to be completed and returned to the NHS advisor. These forms are the second phase of the membership process. These forms include questions concerning: leadership, service and character.

Service: the third phase of the NHS process involves completing forms of leadership and service activities.

Character: the fourth phase is the essay “What the National Honor Society Means to Me and Why I Would Like to be a Part of the Organization” this essay along with all other forms will be the deciding factor of a student’s membership.
