Summer McCartney – Varsity Cheer Coach
I am a proud graduate of Big Sandy. I have worked in the district for 13 years and have had the honor of coaching Varsity Cheer for the past 11 years. Big Sandy is more than just my hometown—it’s a community I deeply love, and I’m grateful to give back through cheerleading. My husband, Adam, and I have been married for 23 years, and we are blessed with three beautiful daughters who have all attended and cheered at Big Sandy, as well as a wonderful son. I am also a proud Lolli to my sweet grandson, Bentley. My goal as a coach is to create lasting memories for our athletes while continuing the traditions that make Big Sandy so special.

Our cheerleaders stay very busy year round, starting with spring and summer practices. We also attend summer camp at Great Wolf Lodge, where we learn new skills and prepare for the season ahead. Throughout the year, we plan and decorate for each pep rally, bringing spirit and excitement to our school. Our squad proudly cheers at football and basketball games and competes at the UIL State Spirit Championship each January. In 2024, we placed 17th in the state among all 2A schools, a tradition of excellence we're excited to continue!
