Kelly Cook

Kelly Cook is beginning his 22nd year in education and coaching.  He has been employed by Big Sandy ISD for 8 years.  Kelly is an assistant coach in football, basketball, track and also serves as the SAC teacher for all campuses.  Coach Cook graduated from Overton High School in 1989 where he participated in football, basketball, and track.  Upon graduating high school,  Coach Cook attended Kilgore College and later transferred to Stephen F. Austin State University where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in 1994.  He has a Kinesiology major and a minor in History.  Coach Cook has been married to his wife Nichol for 20 years and they have 2 children; Haylee, 15, and Gannon, 10, who both attend Big Sandy ISD.  "I love pushing kids to help them achieve their goals and be a success"

Charlie Downs

Coach Downs is in his 12th year of coaching, and his first here at Big Sandy.  He will be coaching JH girls volleyball and the Head softball coach.  Coach Downs graduated from SAU magnolia in 2002, where he was a pitcher for the Muleriders.  Coach Downs is married to Sarah, also a coach at Big Sandy, and they have 3 children, Peyton 8, Addyson 6, and Conner 3.  Coach Down's favorite quote is "whether you think you can or you think you can't, your right!"

Larry Minter

Larry Minter is beginning his 22th year in education and coaching.  He has been employed by Big Sandy ISD for 10 years.  Larry is the Athletic Director/ Head Football Coach and assists in girls basketball as well a track assistant.  Coach Minter is from Big Sandy where he graduated in 1991.  He participated in football, basketball, and track & field.  After winning a State Championship in track in 1991, Coach Minter went on to Stephen F. Austin State University as a member of the track team.  Coach Minter is married to Renee Church Minter and they have 5 children Jeremy, Carson, Caden, Calle, and Canyon.  Coach Minter was quoted saying “ I love my home town and could not think of a better place to live and raise a family.” Go Wildcats!!!!

Daniel Shipman

Daniel Shipman is beginning his 13th year in education and coaching. He has been employed by Big Sandy for five years. Daniel is an assistant football and track coach. Coach Shipman graduated from Big Sandy in 1987 where he participated in football, basketball, and track. He was All East Texas and a Hall of Fame Game Nominee for basketball and was a regional high jumper in track. Daniel was an honor student at Kilgore College. Later he earned his bachelor degree from the University of Texas at Tyler. Daniel worked in private business for 15 years prior to making the move to the education field. Coach Shipman has three children, Sabrah, Jacob, and Joshua. He has been married to his high school sweet heart, Shamel, for 24 years. "I love teaching and coaching kids who are Big Sandy Wildcats through and through. My wife and kids bleed blue and gold and will always be Wildcats through thick and thin."

Jimmy Smith

Coach Jimmy Smith is in his 3rd year as a Head Baseball and Asst Football coach. After playing college baseball at Northlake, Coach Smith finished his studies at the University of North Texas where he studied Business Real Estate.   Coach Smith is happily married to Lacy Smith with their two daughters, Easton and Mickey. Easton attends Big Sandy ISD and Mickey will soon. His favorite Coaching Quote is..."Baseball is 90% mental, the other half is physical" Yogi Berra

Kerry Strong

Kerry Strong is beginning his 16th year in education, his 7th here at Big Sandy. Kerry is the Head Basketball and Cross Country coach and is also an assistant in football and track. Kerry graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1996, Kilgore College in 1998, and the University of Texas at Tyler in 2001, all with honors. Kerry is married to Sarah Ryan Strong and has two children; Brayden, 12, and Kiley, 7. One of Coach Strong’s favorite quotes is “Politicians are the same all over the world, they promise to build a bridge even where there is no water”
