Mrs. Beall's Kids

Hello! My name is Susan Beall and I am the 8th grade United States History and 7th grade Texas History teacher for Big Sandy Junior High School. I will also be the teacher for the junior high gifted and talented students.

This will be my fourth year at Big Sandy and I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. I am a graduate of the University of Texas at Tyler. I am an avid fan of America. I truly believe that we live in the best country in the world. I feel that we all must gain knowledge of what values and beliefs are part of our heritage and we must apply those to the decisions we make today.

I am the wife of 20 years to a wonderful man and the mother of three wonderful children. I have 2 daughters, Jennifer and Amanda, and 1 son Jackson, who is deaf. I love the deaf community and have been so blessed to have learned so much from them and from my child. I can communicate in American Sign Language so I will probably teach some signing to my students. Because my son is deaf, we live in Tyler, where the Regional Day School for the Deaf is located for him at Robert E. Lee High School. My oldest daughter is a graduate of Robert E. Lee and the other two will be attending as a senior and a sophomore.

I love kids and teaching. I find great reward in learning and hope that my students will also. I do not claim to know every aspect of history, but I will definitely try to find out and learn about whatever questions arise. I believe learning is a lifelong process. We are never too old or young to learn. My goal for each of my students is to make the lifelong learners. I want each of them to understand their heritage and to develop their own ideals based on their own set of values. I never try to pass judgment on their beliefs, but I do expect them to understand what they believe and why they believe it. I will share with them any questions they have about how I view things, but I do not expect them to believe it just because I say so. So, if your child says "Mrs. Beall says....", understand I may have said that but I will also say "do not believe it because I say it, find out for yourself."

It is with great excitement that I enter the school year. I believe it is going to be a great year with lots of fun and learning going on. Thank you for sharing your student with me.

Sincerely,
Susan Beall
