Class Rules and Expectations

Theatre Class

In theatre class, you will learn about yourself and about others.  You will learn to appreciate the human condition, as well as Sophocles and Shakespeare.   Both cheerful participation and dependability, not necessarily talent, are necessary for success in the theatre.   Improvisational acting, movement, and set design serve as gateways into the world of theatre.  The study of representative plays from world literature, both classical and contemporary, plus play production, form the background of the program.  Students should be prepared to participate in physical and vocal warm-ups, design a set, or complete an essay test.  Assignments vary throughout the year so students need to arrive with pen, pencil, spiral notebook every day. Supplies like scissors, colored pencils/markers, glue sticks and rulers are essential to specific assignments.

Play Productions

bulletFall show dates are NOVEMBER 3,4 ( school day), and 5.  I am currently reading plays to search for a great fall comedy.  Make sure you let me know if you plan to audition for a part , work on the stage crew, stage manage, or run lights and sound.  Anyone who hopes to perform in the One-Act Play needs to participate in the fall show.

bulletJunior High Theatre   After our district meeting, I will know whether we will be competing in One-Act, performing a Christmas show, or both. In order to have a One-Act competition in Middle School, 3 schools in the district must participate. Last year, our competition was on January 21st.
bullet
bulletChristmas Shows    If you are in Theatre I, II, III, or IV, plan to participate onstage or backstage.
bulletOne-Act Play  March, 06. (Auditions in January, Rehearsals January thru May)  I do know that we will have a conflict with spring break.  But then, what theatre person knows what a spring break is in the first place?  Do not shave your head or dye your hair purple after Christmas break if you hope to be cast.
bulletSpring Shows  During the last 6 weeks of the spring semester, Theatre I classes will perform a play before an audience.
