Big Sandy FFA competed on Wednesday at
the Area VI Career Development Events held at Texas
A&M-Commerce. Teams that competed were Livestock Judging,
Nursery/Landscape, Dairy Products, Dairy Cattle, Farm
Business Management, and Poultry. Big Sandy had 3 teams
place in the top ten in area. The Nursery/Landscape team
stood 8th, the Farm Business Management team
stood 9th and the team pictured above with a
plaque stood 4th out of 54 schools and they have
qualified for the State Contest which will be at Texas A&M
College Station April 24th. The livestock event
is a complicated contest. Students judge all species of
livestock and have to determine qualities to place them
based on the animal. They also judge feeder cattle,
slaughter cattle, keep/cull performance classes and are
given a written exam. This is the 3rd year in a
row for the livestock team to qualify to the state contest
where they will compete among the top 50 teams in the
state. Pictured above L-R. Cameron Hitt, Bailee McDonald,
Justin Robertson (received 10th high individual
award overall), and Hannah South.
