Big Sandy Junior High School

I hope your summer is going well.  We, here at Big Sandy, are working hard to get ready for the upcoming school year.  If you haven’t come by the school lately, you will be amazed at the changes that are going on in construction.  Everything is on schedule to be completed by the first day of school.  At the junior high, we will have 5 new classrooms and a shared computer lab---along with our science lab that opened after spring break this past year.  There will now be no floating teachers or rooms being shared.  Thank you tax-payers for providing this for our students at Big Sandy ISD.

The summer is quickly moving forward as we approach August.  When August arrives, we all know the beginning of school is just around the corner.  To register and prepare for the beginning of the 10-11 school year, the JH staff will be sending each household/student a registration form in the next week that will need to be filled out before the beginning of school.  The letter that will accompany this packet will give all information needed for important dates, registration deadlines, schedules, “meet the teacher” night, and school supplies. 

I hope this note finds you well and that your remaining days of summer are fun-filled and rewarding.  We are looking forward to a great year at Big Sandy JH.  When the final numbers get processed by TEA, it looks like our JH campus will be recognized this year!!!  The HS and ELEM will also have this recognition as well.  Our goal for the upcoming school year is to be “exemplary”.  This is a big step from being recognized (90% and above on all TAKS tests compared to 75% and above for recognition status)) but our students at BSJH are capable of pulling off this tremendous feat.  We were over 90% in writing this past year, and were around 88% in reading and social studies.  The math scores were slightly above 80% while science was 71% this past year.  We have our work cut out for us but the goal is certainly attainable.
