Big Sandy Junior High School

The second semester is in full swing at the JH as we are diligently preparing the students for academic success in their classrooms as well as the TAKS tests. The school year has gone really well as the faculty and staff have raised the bar of expectations for all students. Our academic goal is to be a "recognized" campus, according to the Texas Education Agency, during the 09-10 school year. We were very close last year and hope to get over the hump this year.

Our JH basketball teams did well this year. A big thanks goes to Coaches Shipman, Tharp, and Smith as they led our teams. All of the teams played hard and had a "never give up" attitude. Track is just around the corner. I am looking forward to seeing the kids compete in this as well.

We’ve had several students involved with junior FFA and livestock shows across the state. Many have come back with ribbons, trophies, and belt buckles. The band students are diligently working to get ready for spring contests as well as their end of year concerts.

This semester we are beginning a zero’s aren’t permitted (ZAP) rule. Students that do not turn in assignments in a timely manner will be subject to Saturday school. The JH will give each student every opportunity to get their assignments turned in before Sat. school is the consequence. The reason behind the rule is for each JH student to realize his/her potential and to take responsibility for their education.

We, at BSJH, count it a privilege to educate and work with the students of Big Sandy. We are looking forward to an amazing 2nd semester!!
