FFA "brings home the bacon" from Yamboree

Big Sandy FFA chapter experienced another record breaking year during the Yamboree Livestock Show. Big Sandy entered over 60 total entries this year with students bringing home over $18,000.00 in earnings. The picture above shows most of the students who competed. In the swine show Cameron Hitt took second in class and Matt Robertson took a 3rd in class landing them in the sale order. In the goat show John Caldwell took the jr. showmanship overall champion title earning a belt buckle while brother Clay Caldwell landed second in class and 8th overall in the sale order. In the rabbit show Big Sandy landed two in the top ten. Making sale Felicia Kuehlem and Jessica Mitchell. Skylar Barrilleaux stood as second alternate. In the shop project show the students entered 20 projects this year and took blue ribbons with all entries and placed all entries in the top 5 of each division. In the wildlife division Big Sandy swept the show with a Grand Champion box deer stand built by Brittany Modisett and Whitney Hill, and the Reserve Champion was with a hop trap built by Caleb Snow and Bobby Green. 3rd and 4th place was also taken with 2 more deer stands built by Arthur Crawford, Juan Navarro and Kyle Crowell there were 19 entries in that division. In the BBQ pit division Big Sandy took overall Reserve Champion with a BBQ pit Trailer combo custom built by Jonathan Glaze, Kyle DeWeese, and Jerry Bond. BJ Beason also placed 5th overall with his stand alone BBQ pit. The shop project show reached another record breaking year with 119 entries total. In the Beef Cattle show Matt Robertson 2nd in class and first in class in the Brahman division. Cameron Hitt first in class Brahman division, Bailee Mcdonald first in class in the Brahman Division. Brangus division Russ Brown took a second in class but went on to win overall Reserve Champion. JW Howell won first in class in the Maine Anjou division and went on to win overall Champion and a belt buckle, he also took first in class in the Simmental division and overall Reserve Champion.
