Big Sandy Elementary School

Dear Families,

Everything is getting very busy around Big Sandy Elementary School. The remainder of this school year is going to be filled with activities. You may wish to check out the calendar on this website or the one sent home with students so you can keep up with everything that will be happening.

Math TAKS testing for Third and Fourth Grades is complete. Fourth Grade has finished their Reading TAKS and Fifth Grade has completed the Science portion of TAKS. As soon as we get results on these tests they will be sent home.

On May 13, Fifth Grade students who did not pass the TAKS on the first attempt will be retaking the test.

Several groups will be taking field trips. Look for information from teachers concerning your child’s trips.

The Elementary School band students will have their annual Spring Concert on May 6, beginning at 6:30. The Wildcat Chorale will have their annual Spring Concert on May 20, beginning at 6:30. Our young people have worked very hard this year and we hope to see you at these performances.

The Annual Track and Field Day will be held on the afternoon of May 16th. Please make plans to attend and cheer our students on to their best performances.

School will dismiss early at 12:30 on May 23rd and will not be in session May 26th so that you might enjoy a long Memorial Holiday weekend.

Kindergarten Graduation will be held on May 29th, beginning at 7:00 p.m. Fifth Grade Graduation will be on June 3rd, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

Awards Assemblies for the Sixth Six Weeks will be held on June 4th. Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grades will meet in the Auditorium at 8:15 and First and Second Grades will meet at 9:30.

School will dismiss at 12:30 on June 4th and 5th. June 5th is the last day of the 2008-2009 school year.

Summer School will be held Monday through Thursday beginning June 9th and going through July 3rd. Notices will be sent home regarding students who should plan to attend Summer School.

On a personal note, I have really enjoyed the 2007-2008 school year. Parents, students, and faculty members have worked together to have a highly successful year. As always, we appreciate our students and their families for all you do to help make each year better than the last.
