Milestone: Big Sandy Hosts FFA Convention

On Monday night January 28th Big Sandy was the site for the Daingerfield District FFA Convention. The Auditorium was packed with over 375 students, administrators, parents, and Ag Teachers representing 33 schools in the District.  New District FFA officers for the 2008-2009 school year were chosen along with area and state officers.  Hosting the convention was a mile stone for the Big Sandy FFA.  Olivia Ellis reached her dream of becoming the Daingerfield District President. Students have been preparing for the event for over a year.  The Process includes a state exam, interview and a speeches that were delivered at the convention.  Olivia will now preside over 33 schools and Ag Teacher Matt Byrd will now serve as the new district Advisor.  Whitney Gage competed in the Talent Segment, one of the songs included a tribute to the Armed Forces in Iraq. She placed 4th.  Big Sandy FFA Chapter President Kaila Beth Johnson competed in a tight race for State Officer nominee.  The Big Sandy FFA would like to thank the students, parents, and the community for the support.  This was a major event for the school to be able to host a convention.  We would also like to thank superintendent Scott Beene for providing the welcome at the convention.
