Big Sandy Elementary School finished up a month-long study of African-American History with a special program on Thursday, February 28, 2008. Students, staff, and parents filled the auditorium to hear a message presented by Reverend Olin Fregia, the campus pastor of Jarvis Christian College. Reverend Fregia served as youth pastor and director of Munger Avenue Baptist Church in Dallas, Texas, prior to accepting his position at Jarvis in 2004. Reverend Fregia has much experience in youth ministry and communications, which has prepared him for his Spirit-led passion and calling: Christian discipleship of young people.
Reverend Fregia spoke to the student body about how history begins with them. He reminded students that those who have come before us and accomplished their dreams have made the way easier for those of us who follow to focus on our personal goals. He encouraged students, faculty, and guests, to “let their light shine.”
Following Reverend Fregia’s message, the Big Sandy Elementary Chorale performed for the audience. The Chorale’s selections for this program were “It’s All Good,” arranged by Mike Wilson, with a solo by Cara Lee and “Peace Song,” with special vocal ensemble by Mikayla White, Jasmine Pipkins, Khreshia Johnson, Josette Peterson, Katherine Trotter, and Jordan Smith. Narrators for the musical selections were DeCorein Hodge and Josette Peterson. The Chorale is under the direction of Mrs. Dawn Arrington.
