The doctor has been taught to be interested not in health but in disease. What the public is taught is that health is the cure for disease. - Ashley Montagu

Parent's Make The Difference

Choose Words That Will Encourage Such As:

  • I have faith in you
  • You can do it if you try
  • You are doing fine
  • Don't worry about that mistake, that was a good try
  • You will figure it out
  • It is a challenge, but I'm sure you will do fine
  • I see you put a lot of effort into that

Suggestions to get involved in your student's education

  • Join the local parent-teacher association and attend meetings
  • Schedule a regular time for homework, and check every day
  • Plan a long lunch break and have lunch with your child
  • Support the teacher and ask if there are ways you can help at home
  • Attend parent/teacher conferences
  • Ask for time off to volunteer in your child's school
  • Take part in after school events.

Solving School Problems

  • Be aware that your attitudes about school affect your child, so be careful what you say.
  • Talk with school before problems develop
  • If you believe that there are learning problems, ask if your child can be tested
  • Understand that many people have learning disabilities-talk to the child's teacher, ask if your child can be tested, give your child extra support at home, and find things your child can do well.
  • Talk with your child after a test - learning to take tests builds confidence.
