Snowflake

It turns out that "pure" snow is made up of snowflakes which are made up of from 2 to 200 separate snow crystals.  Snow crystals are crystals that have formed around tiny bits of dirt that have been carried up into the atmosphere by the wind.  So snow crystals are really soil particles that have been dressed up in ice.

Sugar Glider

The sugar glider (Petaurus breviceps) is a small arboreal marsupial that is found in the forests of Australia, as well as in Tasmania, New Guinea, and the neighboring islands of Indonesia. This little creature is a member of the same order that includes kangaroos, opossums, wombats and Tasmanian devils!  They are sold as pets.

Ghost Shrimp, also known as Glass Shrimp, are a relatively small invertebrate only reaching a maximum size of 2".  They are common in East Texas lakes and other areas of the world.

Hurricanes are severe tropical storms that form in the southern Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, and in the eastern Pacific Ocean. Hurricanes gather heat and energy through contact with warm ocean waters. Evaporation from the seawater increases their power.

Patricia Bath

Born - November 4, 1942

Opthamologist - Inventor

 

Patricia Era Bath (born November 4, 1942, Harlem, New York) is an ophthalmologist credited as the first African American woman doctor to receive a patent for a medical invention. Bath received the patent in 1988 for an "Apparatus for ablating and removing cataract lenses", a version of a device designed to help remove cataracts with a fiberoptic laser.
